Chocolate Soufflé Brownies | Baking With Grace

Chocolate Soufflé Brownies RecipeHow lucky am I?  I have been writing this blog for just over a year and in that time I have had the great fortune of baking for my blog with three of my lovely nieces.  Grace came all the way from Kentucky to spend this past week with me.  When she arrived, I asked her to tell me the three top things she wanted to do while visiting California.  Number two on the list was, “be on your blog”.  I was completely flattered!  Who remembers what number one was.  Flattery aside, her desires may have been fueled by a bit of competition that arose following her cousin Chloe’s visit last summer.   Regardless, I feel like the luckiest Aunt in the world to have nieces who want to visit me, and I am especially touched that they follow my blog. To Be Married 60 Years | Something to Celebrate

Mom and Dad's 60th Wedding Anniversary CakeOnce upon a time, way back when I was young, the concept of being married to the same person for 60 years seemed, well, like an eternity.  This July, H and I will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary – and in a very good way – that seems like a life time.  On Friday, my mother-in-law and father-in-law celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Couples married at a much younger age in those days.  Mom and Dad are still quite young, both in years and at heart, and I expect they will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary in a decade from now.  I admire their commitment; their tenacity.  Even the strongest of marriages meet with adversity.  For richer or poorer; through good times and bad; in sickness and health; those are enormous promises, no doubt more easily vowed when we are young and naive.  True love endures and the love they share is truly a testament to that. Upside-Down Maple Pecan Bran Muffins

Upside-Down Maple Pecan Bran Muffins RecipeIf I told you how long I’ve held onto this recipe it would date me back to the Jurassic era.  And in all those years, I never got around to making it.  Why today, you might ask.  I was woken up very early this morning by a shivering wet dog jumping onto my bed and a husband kissing me good-bye as he ran out the door to a meeting.  Did I mention “early”?  As in 6:00am.  As H headed out the door, he whispered over his shoulder, “Hun, go back to sleep”.  Nope, that wasn’t going to happen.  Once I’m up, I’m up. Caffè Mocha Pots de Crème

Caffè Latte Pots de CremèSaturday was one of my favorite kind of days; a day when friends dropped by to kibitz around the kitchen table.  We caught up, shared the latest news, everyone talking over each other, and lots and lots of laughs.  Fried donuts drenched in chocolate and Baileys Irish Cream glazes were chased down with freshly brewed coffee.  That doesn’t happen enough these days – not the donut part, but the ‘people stopping for a visit unannounced’ part.  Instead, there is an acrobatic juggling of calendars resulting in a date so far into the future that by the time it arrives you have forgotten the reason you were getting together in the first place.  I remember Sundays during my childhood when extended family and friends would frequently drop in, often staying right through to dinner.  And that’s the trick.  You need to feed your company.  Keep bringing out food and they’ll stay.  After the donuts were gone I went to the freezer and brought out the sticky buns I had frozen the week before.   If I had anticipated their visit, I would have had a big pot of soup on the back burner or something roasting in the oven that would have enticed them to stay even longer. Quickest Ever Sticky Buns

Quickest Ever Sticky Buns RecipeI’m going to be so mad at myself for creating this recipe.  My passion for sticky buns and the ease at which these come together make a terrible combination when one lacks self control; and when it comes to sticky buns, I seriously lack self control.  To be honest, there really isn’t a substitute for a hand-kneaded, slowly risen, cinnamon filled sticky bun.  HOWEVER, when short on time, yeast, or patience, I think you will find these buns to be an acceptable surrogate.
